Basic collection of motors.

I have compiled a list of motors I use often and which may be useful to others. These are of various types

I have collected a series of motors and  will include descriptions and my uses of them here.

High Power Brushed Motors

This is a DC remote control car motor, it uses removable brushes that are meant to be cleaned after every use, which explains there odd detailed construction. These run very close to saturation and always run hot they also have good acceleration and braking ability. They’re meant to be powerful at the expense of efficiency.

Water-resistant Brushless Motor

This is a water resistant motor used for cars and boats. It is 3 phase aluminum cased motor. Note the fiberglass wrapped around the radially to prevent the two magnets from separating at 50,000 rpm. Its rated for 900 Watts though these motors are known to run very hot at 150% of their rated power. This version Is 5 turns at 56 Amps continuous current, resistance is 0.0126 ohms. The heat from extended operation has been know to demagnetize the inner magnet rotor for this reason the rotors are periodically measured and replace it if needed demagnetized due to heat.

Large Geared Motor.

This child’s ride on toy is being repurposed for a unmanned ground vehicle. The gearbox is  power by a 12 Vdc “550” size motor.

Stepper Motors

Stepper motors reqiure more electronics support to operate then just a simple switch or transistor PWM. The L298 and L297 have been popular for decades and will probably remain so for many years to come due to the power and survive-ability of the L298 and the ease of interface provided by the L297.

Toy Motors

These toy motors I use for many small experimental or brief experiments. the rectangular ones cost $0.70 cent each, and the half round ones are $1.20 each they are sold 20 pieces at a time and run from 3 to 9 volts. These are very popular
